Periprosthetic Fracture

These are special type of fracture which occur around a prosthesis or an implant which was put previously for the treatment of different condition. Most commonly, periprosthetic fractures are noted around upper end of femur in case of Total or partial hip replacement or around knee in case of Total knee replacement.

The management of these fractures depend on the stability of the previous prosthesis and decision to go for Fixation of fracture or Revision arthroplasty is taken accordingly.
